The panelists will analyze the Supreme Court's much-awaited decisions made in the past year and how they will affect future class actions. For instance, how can defendants defend against class certification in the wake of the seemingly contradictory decisions in Amgen and Comcast on the predominance requirement of Rule 23? Can a defendant foreclose class actions all together through a well-crafted arbitration provision or through an offer of judgment? What's on the horizon for 2014? The panel will discuss these and other questions.

Panelists:
<a title="Lee A. Casey" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/LeeACasey">Lee A. Casey</a> is a partner in BakerHostetler's Washington D.C., office. He focuses on federal environmental, constitutional and international law and Alien Tort Statute issues. He also advises clients on compliance issues under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), U.S. trade sanctions regimes and federal ethics requirements. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Casey served in various capacities in the federal government, including the Office of Legal Policy, the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice and as Deputy Associate General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy.
<a title="Paul G. Karlsgodt" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/PaulGKarlsgodt">Paul G. Karlsgodt</a> is national chair of the Class Action Defense Team and the litigation coordinator of the firm's Denver office. He concentrates his practice on class action defense, with an emphasis on data privacy and consumer class actions. Paul represents companies in the insurance, healthcare, energy and telecommunications industries in numerous nationwide and statewide consumer class action lawsuits and related litigation.
<a title="Deborah H. Renner" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/DeborahHRenner">Deborah H. Renner</a> leads BakerHostetler's Class Action Defense Practice in New York and is co-editor of BakerHostetler's Class Action Lawsuit Defense blog. Her practice is concentrated on complex commercial litigation, including the defense of consumer fraud and securities class actions. Deborah is a lead attorney on the team that serves as Counsel to the SIPA Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS).
<a title="Joanne Lichtman" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/JoanneLichtman">Joanne Lichtman</a> is a partner in BakerHostetler's Los Angeles office and is recognized as one of California's "Top Women Litigators" for 2013 by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal. Her experience includes a broad array of substantive areas of complex commercial litigation, with particular knowledge of consumer and antitrust class actions, product liability, false advertising, unfair business practices and a wide range of environmental litigation.
<a title="Joseph E. Ezzie" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/JosephEEzzie">Joseph E. Ezzie</a> is a partner in BakerHostetler's Columbus office. He concentrates his practice in the areas of class action defense and complex commercial litigation. Joseph has handled a variety of litigation matters, including commercial matters, the defense of professional negligence actions, trade secrets, class actions, construction cases and patent disputes. He has a broad base of litigation experience, including trial and appellate practice, original investigation of claims, injunctive relief and complex discovery.
<a title="Patrick T. Lewis" href="http://www.bakerlaw.com/PatrickTLewis">Patrick T. Lewis</a> is a partner in BakerHostetler's Cleveland office.
